History

We
don't know when the various parts of The Cobble Creek Cabin were
constructed. The cabin consists of three separate buildings that
were crafted together sometime in the 1950s. Hence the name
"Cobble Creek", since the cabin was cobbled together. To our
knowledge, there isn't a Cobble Creek in the Soda Springs area.
The
cabin was moved to town in 1957 basically as you see it in the
picture above. We purchased the
Soda
Creek Lodge next door in 2007 and remodeled
it. After that project was finished. this cabin, next door to
the lodge, came up for sale. It needed more refurbishing than
the lodge and it took us several months to decide to purchase
it.
We
bought it in September 2008 and in the time since then we
completely stripped the inside down to the studs. We've replaced
windows, doors, interior siding, electrical, insulation, and
added more insulation where needed (which was a lot!) This home
had a reputation for being cold and expensive to heat in the
winter, and now we know why! Since we replaced the major
players, the home stays comfortable and has been inexpensive to
heat.
We've
posted photos on our
Before
and After page so you can see the dramatic
change inside. Although the original tongue and groove siding
used on the interior of the great room looks nice in the photos,
believe me, it needed to come out! The rest of the house was
finished with 1/4" plywood.
We've used many of the construction techniques we
used in the
lodge and have added some new features like river
rock, gas insert fireplace, and tile floors. We also added a
bathroom to the 2nd story bedroom so each bedroom now features a
private bath instead of a common bath.

Exterior Plans
Now
that we have finished the interior (July 2009), we've started on
the outside. The first week of June 2010 we removed all the old
log siding, installed house wrap, and applied and stained hand
scraped Scandinavian Log. The rolled river rock was set the
second weekend in June.
Still
to come, a new full length porch will be added across the front
featuring 6x6 timber posts and beams. The intent is to make the
outside just as inviting as the inside, and we think you'll
agree, we're getting close!
We
hope you enjoy browsing our web site to see what we've done.
Give us a call if you'd like to reserve a date. We are
conveniently located between the major attractions in Southeast Idaho
and Southwest Wyoming. Soda Springs is a great place to visit
and live. Their motto is "We're what America use to be", and
it's true.
