Cobble Creek Cabin's History

September 2008
We don't know when the various parts of The Cobble Creek Cabin were constructed. The cabin consists of three separate buildings that were crafted together sometime in the 1950s. Hence the name "Cobble Creek", since the cabin was cobbled together. To our knowledge, there isn't a Cobble Creek in the Soda Springs area.

The cabin was moved to town in 1957 basically as you see it in the picture above. We purchased the Soda Creek Lodge next door in 2007 and remodeled it. After that project was finished. this cabin came up for sale. It needed more refurbishing than the lodge and it took us several months to decide to purchase it.

We bought it in September 2008. The photo above was taken after we replaced all the windows and front door. Starting in the Fall of 2008 we completely stripped the inside down to the studs. We replaced windows, doors, interior siding, electrical, insulation, and added more insulation where needed (which was a lot!) This home had a reputation for being cold and expensive to heat in the winter, and now we know why! Since we replaced the major players, the home stays comfortable and has been inexpensive to heat.
July 2009
We used many of the construction techniques we used in the lodge and have added some new features like log beams in the ceiling, river rock, gas insert fireplace, and tile floors. We also added a bathroom to the 2nd story bedroom so each bedroom now features a private bath instead of a common bath.

The interior is finally finished! The photo above is the Great Room looking down from the stairs to the upstairs bedroom.

Once it warmed up we tackled the exterior of the house. As you can see from the photo at the top of this page, it was in pretty bad shape. We stripped all of the old siding, repaired what needed to be repaired, then house-wrapped the entire building and applied hand-scraped Scandinavian siding. We used river rock matching the fireplace inside across the front and added a wonderful 6x6 framed sitting porch across the front. We think you'll agree, the changes outside have made a dramatic change to the curb appeal of our cabin!

We hope you enjoy browsing our web site to see what we've done. We have a scrapbook on our Before and After page with lots of remodel photos.

Give us a call if you'd like to reserve a date. We are conveniently located between the major attractions in Southeast Idaho and Salt Lake City and Yellowstone/Jackson in Southwest Wyoming.

Soda Springs is a great place to visit and live. Their motto is "We're what America use to be". We think you'll agree once you visit.
